A planned duet between country star Chris Stapleton and his wife Morgane was scrapped just moments before the Academy of Country Music Awards started on Sunday night in Nashville.

Morgane Stapleton, 38, was supposed perform Maggie's Song with her 43-year-old husband on Sunday night's awards show, but she pulled out due to a, 'prior doula commitment,' according to People.  

In Morgane's stead, Miranda Lambert stepped in at the last minute to sing the duet with Stapleton.

'Due to her prior doula commitment, Morgane Stapleton is unable to join Chris Stapleton at the Bluebird as scheduled,' read a statement from the ACM.

She kicked off the show with an opening performance of the recently-released duet Drunk (And I Don't Wanna Go Home) with Elle King.

She also performs a third time with her song Anchor with Jack Ingram and Jon Randall during the ceremony.

Stapleton's hit track Maggie's Song appears on his new album Starting Over, and is a tribute to the lab-terrier the couple rescued.
