Blake Shelton’s very last season of kicked off on Monday night (March 6). Unfortunately, he passed on one singer he really wishes he wouldn’t have.
Singer Emily Rhyne stepped on stage to audition in front of the four coaches of and gave it her all. She performed “The First Cut Is the Deepest” for Blake Shelton, Niall Horan, Chance the Rapper, and Kelly Clarkson.
“The First Cut Is the Deepest” is a classic song written by Cat Stevens in 1967. The song has been covered by many artists over the years, including Rod Stewart, who had a hit with it in 1977. After Emily’s audition, the four coaches asked who she was and where she was from. She revealed she was from Blake Shelton’s hometown of Ada, Oklahoma and even sings at his bar, Ole Red! This news made Blake immediately regret not turning around for her.
To make matters worse – for Blake – Emily revealed she had a couple presents for Blake. Her sister brought out a t-shirt, which was signed by lots of local Ada musicians, and her phone. Emily told Blake that he knows her grandfather, who was a musician. After revealing who her grandfather was, Blake immediately knew who he was!

Blake confirmed this to be true before Emily started playing one of the tracks he laid down for that session when he was just 13 years old! He was singing “Dumas Walker” by The Kentucky Headhunters. Everyone immediately went nuts hearing Blake as a 13 year old singer!
