Kelly Clarkson joyfully hugged her daughter River Rose, eight, as it was announced she had won a People's Choice Award for daytime talk show of 2022.

The 40-year-old songbird then bounded up onstage and gushed to the audience: 'I'm having a date night with my daughter, River Rose.'

At the end of her speech Kelly excitedly said: 'I'm gonna go have ice cream with my baby girl,' as River cheered: 'Go Mom!' from the audience.

Kelly shares River and a son called Remington, six, with her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock, with whom she recently fought a bitter divorce.

 

During her acceptance speech Tuesday night Kelly noted: 'And Remy, I know you're at home, you're not feeling well, we love you, baby!'

She also offered her gratitude to Niecy Nash, who helped present her with the award 'for hosting my show the other day while I was sick.'

Kelly added: 'But this is really cool to get because this is where the people vote. And I feel like for the last 20 years, well, that's my whole career has been people literally voting me in or getting something.'

She shot to fame in 2002 when she won the first-ever season of American Idol, which like the People's Choice Awards is decided by audience votes.

'So this is very important to me,' said Kelly of her new prize: 'because this is why I have an entire career, because y'all have been supporting me for that long.

'

The Since U Been Gone hitmaker effervesced: 'So whether it's singing or a talk show or whatever I'm doing, and so I really appreciate it.'

Kelly added that 'it does take a huge team to make everything happen, and NBC thank you so much. You've been like incredible. My whole team at The Kelly Clarkson Show thank you so much for supporting us. We love our show! Thank you so much! I'm gonna go have ice cream with my baby girl.'

Little River and Kelly could be glimpsed backstage hobnobbing with none other than Shania Twain, who was the recipient of the Music Icon Award. 

They also mingled with Jayne Mansfield's daughter Mariska Hargitay, who scooped up the TV drama actress for Law And Order: Special Victims Unit.

Kenan Thompson is returning to host the star-studded awards show, which is back at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica this year. 

'I'm beyond excited to host the People's Choice Awards again this year and celebrate the incredible talent and fans that this show unites,' gushed Kenan when it was revealed he would be reprising his role as compere.
